RXPE (RXHK since 2017) MAXIVAR™ Utility grade STATCOM is probably the most advanced and reliable large scale STATCOM currently available for Dynamic Reactive Compensation.
Manchester UK, December 23, 2014: RXPE announced today that it has been awarded a design-build contract from DONG Energy the Danish utility to provide engineering, procurement and construction of the Dynamic Reactive Compensation Plant (±50MVAr MAXIVAR™ Utility grade STATCOM) for the Burbo Bank offshore wind farm extension which comprises the construction of 32 turbines eight kilometers off the coast in Liverpool Bay, which are expected to be commissioned in 2017.
The projects extension to the existing 90MW wind farm is expected to produce enough electricity to power around 180,000 UK households. The extension project was one of three developed by DONG Energy to be awarded an early Contract for Difference (CfD), offering a guaranteed price for the electricity they produce over the first 15 years of operation.
The RXPE MAXIVAR™ Utility grade STATCOM is probably the most advanced and reliable large scale STATCOM currently available for Dynamic Reactive Compensation. The project will be the first for RXPE in the United Kingdom and is essential for maintaining grid code compliance, injecting and absorbing reactive power into the local distribution system and ensuring that the Burbo Bank Windfarm remains connected to produce a reliable source of clean energy, reduce air emissions and help tackle climate change.
RXPE are committed to excellence and quality delivered in a safe and sustainable manner. This is achieved through the dedication and flexibility of our staff. RXPE is the largest producer by volume of SVC’s and STATCOM’s and specialises in the power electronics and high power dynamic reactive compensation sector. The MAXIVAR™ STATCOM is currently the world’s largest capacity Statcom with an installed rating of ±320MVAr and purpose designed for transmission utility applications. The company is at the forefront of technological development in the field of utility based power electronics. RXPE’s in-house development team work closely with clients and academia to improve and develop innovative solutions.
“RXPE is thrilled to be able to contribute to this innovative project that helps the United Kingdom work towards its sustainability goals through the conversion of Wind to Clean Energy,” said RXPE’s Technical Director Dr. Graeme Bathurst. “At RXPE, our vision of a more-sustainable future drives much of our work, and this project is a great example of how environmentally forward-thinking designs can be incorporated into traditional infrastructure.”
Construction of the Dynamic Reactive Compensation Plant will begin in 2015 year and is expected to be completed by 2016.
