RXHK have been awarded a second STATCOM project in Mozambique
In September 2019 Kenmare Resources plc, one of the leading global producers of titanium minerals and zircon, awarded RXHK an EPC contract for a 110kV connected ±15Mvar STATCOM to support the delivery of additional power as part of their increasing production profile to 1.2Mt ilmenite output per annum at their Moma Titanium Minerals Mine in Nampula Province, northern Mozambique.
The mine receives it electrical power from the Electricidade de Moçambique (EdM) network via the EdM substation at Nampula where, since December 2015 a ±75 Mvar STATCOM provided by RXHK has been in operation.
The RXHK design and supply contract includes a ±15Mvar 11kV water-cooled STATCOM, step up transformer and 110kV outdoor GIS bay. The low short-circuit level of the location due to the long transmission line poses additional challenges for the design of the STATCOM controls. This requires detailed network studies using PSSE and PSCAD as well as control system hardware verification using the RXHK RTDS platform.
At RXHK we are proud to be supporting the Mozambican economy and helping to deliver efficient, robust and cost effective solutions to challenging environments and grid conditions.
