Kenmare Resources has used RXHK STATCOM Technology to support the extension of the Moma Sands mine on the coast in Nampula Province, Northern Mozambique.
The mine is fed by a 110kV supply from the EdM substation at Nampula, where in 2015 RXHK commissioned a ±75Mvar STATCOM as part of strengthening the 220kV network and supporting rural electrification
The STATCOM will support the voltage within the mine during large drive starts and remove the need for the operation of several MW of diesel generators
FAT including RTDS testing was performed remotely during May ‘20
Equipment was delivered into Mozambique in late July ’20, delivered to site in Mid August ‘20
Due to COVID-19 restrictions site installation teams mobilised to site in September ‘20 • Commissioning was completed and the system taken over in December 2020. Scope of work includes:
Civil works
Design and Supply of 110kV Outdoor GIS, 10/110kV transformer and containerised STATCOM
