Kenmare Moma Sands Mine

132kV, ±15Mvar

• Kenmare Resources has used RXHK STATCOM Technology to support the extension of the Moma Sands mine on the coast in Nampula Province, Northern Mozambique.
• The mine is fed by a 110kV supply from the EdM substation at Nampula, where in 2015 RXHK commissioned a ±75Mvar STATCOM as part of strengthening the 220kV network and supporting rural electrification
• The STATCOM will support the voltage within the mine during large drive starts and remove the need for the operation of several MW of diesel generators
• FAT including RTDS testing was performed remotely during May ‘20
• Equipment was delivered into Mozambique in late July ’20, delivered to site in Mid August ‘20
• Due to COVID-19 restrictions site installation teams mobilised to site in September ‘20 • Commissioning was completed and the system taken over in December 2020. Scope of work includes:
• Civil works
• Design and Supply of 110kV Outdoor GIS, 10/110kV transformer and containerised STATCOM
• M&E installation
• Commissioning
