RXPE Circuit

Yu’e back-to-back VSC-HVDC project is a significant project for China State Grid (SGCC) to realize it’s “Three sending end + Three receiving end” grid structure. This project employs the existing two 500kV transmission channels and establishes one converter station respectively in the North and the South Channel.

In April 2016 RXHK was contracted to supply one 1250MW, 420kV back-to-back VSC-HVDC valve, valve control and cooling system set . Material procurement for the valves commenced in Summer 2016 to support manufacturing during Q4 2017 and Q1 2018 with commissioning happening during Q2 2019.

The Type Test was performed in June 2017 according to IEC 62501 and IEC 62751 and witnessed by the customer, State Grid Corporation of China. Tests included:

  • Max. continuous operational load test
  • Max. transient overload test
  • Min. DC voltage test
  • IEGT overcurrent turn-off test
  • Short-circuit current test
  • Bypass test
  • Test for valve insensitivity to electromagnetic disturbance
  • Valve support DC test
  • Valve support AC test
  • Valve support switching impulse test
  • Valve support lightning impulse test
  • Valve AC –DC voltage between valve terminals

In mid May 2019 the RXHK commissioning teams completed the commissioning of the two 1,250MW 420kV back to back VSC HVDC valves that are at the core of one of the two Yu'E converter stations.

In June 2019 the reliability run commenced and was successfully completed.
