Continued Success in Australia

Rongxin Huiko Electric Co.,Ltd (RXHK) have been awarded a fourth STATCOM project in Australia.

In September 2020 Iberdrola Australia selected RXHK’s MaxiVar technology for their Port Augusta Renewable Energy Project (PAREP), located near the town of Port Augusta in South Australia. The equipment is being supplied via a subcontract from Green Light Contractors Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of the Spanish Elecnor group. The project will be delivered using a combination of our local and offshore teams working in close collaboration with all parties.

Once constructed PAREP will comprise a hybrid facility of a wind farm and a photovoltaic plant providing a total installed capacity of 317 MW.  The RXHK design and supply contract includes two ±15Mvar 10kV water-cooled STATCOMs with 2.7x short term overload.

The STATCOMs are connecting directly to 275kV via a common unit transformer to help the project achieve GPS compliance at the 275kV point of connection.  The high speed RXHK controller for these two units will interface with the hybrid power park controller being delivered by Vestas as part of their wind turbine supply.  The system is being designed also with the future in mind to permit easy expansion through the addition of a 3rd ±15Mvar unit.

As with previous projects in Australia RXHK will provide PSS/E and PSCAD software models of the STATCOM that comply with AEMO’s latest rules. Iberdrola will utilise these to assist with their preparation of the GPS studies required for grid connection of a generating facility by AEMO.  The control systems will be further tested utilising RXHK’s in-house RTDS system as part of the factory acceptance testing for the project.

This latest award confirms the local market confidence in RXHK technology and confirms our ability to supply to demanding Australian Standards.  Even with the recent challenges of Covid-19 RXHK has continued to deliver our projects without delay through adoption of safe working methods, modern communications and the use of remote supervision and commissioning of this technology.

RXHK looks forward to supporting all parties with this project in the rapid delivery period, as well as the option to provide long-term service and maintenance support.
