Installation of RXPE’s 5,200m2 factory is now underway at Dankuni, West Bengal in India.
The factory is strategically located within the Kolkata metropolitan area. This region is a manufacturing and trading hub of east India with abundant coal, minerals, oil & gas and hydroelectric resources. On a national highway network close to an international airport and major sea ports, it represents a gateway to South East Asia. The factory will initially focus on the production and testing of a +300MVar STATCOM which forms part of RXPE’s supply for a POWERGRID project.
Going forward, the Dankuni-based factory will support manufacture, testing, service and aftersales for advanced Flexible AC Transmission Systems devised and delivered by RXPE. Employing a skilled team, it will be capable of producing up to five STATCOM / SVG sets, or equivalent, per year. The facility will handle equipment for future projects in India / South East Asia as well as the Middle East and Africa regions.
Lalit Tejwani, Country Manager for RXPE India, is overseeing the schedule for setting up the factory. Work began in January, applying for statutory registrations and engineering services. Civil works and installation are ongoing, with commencement of operations expected in June 2016.
“Our goal is to drive business growth in India and the wider South East Asian region,” Tejwani explains. “This factory complements our project work with local clients and EPC partners. RXPE expects to compete for an increasing number of EPC tenders for the utilities, industry and rail sectors. The factory will also enable us to enhance our competitiveness and aftersales support for the entire life cycle of RXPE’s Flexible AC Transmission Systems.”
